Catering to Maternal and New-born Health
Samrin* is a 25 year old new mother who delivered a healthy baby on 22nd March 2020 at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Bhiwandi. Her husband, Aadil*, is a daily wage worker and is currently at home due to the ongoing lockdown. Our Community Organisers (COs) are in regular touch with ASHA workers through phone calls. When one of our COs, Shabana*, got in touch with Anjum*, an ASHA worker, she was informed about Samrin and how the family was having a hard time getting daily ration since Aadil was out of a job due of the lockdown. This was a difficult situation since Samrin had just delivered a baby and proper food intake was necessary for her and the baby. After putting in tremendous efforts of calling up people for information, Shabana found out that the local corporator of the area where Samrin resides was providing cooked food to needy families. She informed Anjum about this who advised Aadil to get food for his family from this distribution. He visited the place and was able to procure cooked food. The family now receives cooked food every day from this distribution to survive during the lockdown period.
